I am the eldest child of a Pentecostal/Apostolic pastor who said, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!" So, from an early age, I served in many church leadership positions and answered the call to the preaching ministry in 1985; was ordained by the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World in 1992; and, served in elected and appointed positions in its 2nd Episcopal District (Penna.) In 1995, I founded the Word Alive Worship Center in Philadelphia and in 2000, joined the New Destiny Fellowship International and was appointed as its general secretary. I served in that capacity until May 2010 when I was elevated to the bishopric with responsibility for Region 1 (DE and eastern PA).

After a very successful career in retailing, I joined the US Department of Labor as an investigator, GS5, was promoted to several key management positions in Philadelphia, PA and Washington, DC (GM 15 in just over 10 years); and, in 1995, retired as director of my agency's office of field operations. In auxiliary roles, I served as DOL Federal Women's Program Manager, Region III; as Chairperson of the Regional Executive Board and the Secretary of Labor's National Field Advisory Committee; and, as my agency's chief negotiating official in contract negotiations. I was also priviledged to serve on my own as a free lance consultant in organization development, group dynamics and interpersonal relations.

I have earned degrees as Master of Science in Human Resources Development (the American University, 1982) and as Master of Divinity (the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, 2010), and, in October 2010, I was awarded an honorary degree as Doctor of Divinity (Elbon Solutions College of Ministry).

I have been married since March 1961 to Jerome Barksdale and we have one adult daughter, Beverly Tucker-Beckles who is also a minister
